Dozens of local residents now have something signed by Flash Gordon himself -- or at least the actor who played the iconic character. Sam Jones appeared at Hypno Comics and Games in Pahrump Saturday, where dozens of fans lined up -- and waited patiently -- for their turn to meet him. Hypno Comics and Games is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 to 6 at their new location, 720 East Street, across from the library.

High school student robotics team Awkward Silence, from Pahrump, is the best in Nevada. Unfortunately, they won't get to compete in this year's world robotics championship, which was canceled due to the pandemic. Even so, team members are proud of their accomplishments. Awkward Silence is part of Southern Nye County 4-H. Right now, the team has eight members. The Nye County Sheriff's Office is investigating an animal attack Wednesday afternoon in Pahrump. A woman was bitten by a dog on Umatilla Street. Pahrump Valley Fire Chief Scott Lewis says her injuries were so severe, she was flown to University Medical Center in Las Vegas for treatment.

Actor Who Played Flash Gordon to Sign Autographs in Pahrump

Sam Jones is an American actor, arguably best known for his role as Flash Gordon in the 1980 film. Jones is a fan favorite at comic show conventions worldwide. This weekend, he'll be in our area, meeting fans and signing autographs at two stores, including Hypno Comics, right here in Pahrump. Jones will be at Rogue Toys East in Las Vegas Saturday morning, from 10 to 2. He'll then meet with fans here in Pahrump at Hypno Comics, at 720 East Street, from 3:30 to 6:30. Investigators Seek Cause of Pahrump Garage Fire

An early-morning fire at a home on Dyer Road in Pahrump destroyed a garage and several vehicles inside. The state fire marshal's office is now investigating. As Pahrump Valley Fire Chief Scott Lewis tells News 25, authorities are trying to determine if there's a connection between this fire and other activities in the area earlier Monday night.

Nye County Deputy Xavier Gideon Honored for Actions

Nye County Sheriff's Office Deputy Xavier Gideon was the first to arrive at the scene of a crash on February 11, 2020 -- when a car struck the HealthCare Partners building in Pahrump. Now, the Southern Nevada Safety Officer Award Recognition -- or SOAR -- Program is recognizing Deputy Gideon for his actions. Twenty-six safety officers from agencies throughout Southern Nevada have received a SOAR Award this year.
