Pahrump Valley High School To Dissolve JROTC Program

The Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps -- JROTC for short -- is a federal program sponsored by the United States Armed Forces in schools across the U.S. The program is a high school elective whose mission is to teach students citizenship, leadership, character and community service. A key advisor left the program at Pahrump Valley High School in December. And despite efforts to keep it alive, PVHS Principal Desiree Veloz says they've made the difficult decision to dissolve the JROTC program. Veloz says fewer students are participating in the program, attributing some of that to the changes in leadership. She says the students currently in the JROTC program will finish out the school year.
