In June 1944 the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944 -- commonly known as the G.I. Bill -- was signed into law. The G.I. Bill has undergone a number of changes over the years. But the goal remains the same -- to provide military veterans additional unemployment benefits, job training and housing assistance.
