Driver Killed in Wrong Way Crash

Preliminary information is that on September 11, 2020 at approximately 1:48am, a silver 2003 Hummer H2 was traveling southbound in the northbound travel lanes on the US95, north of Russell Road. At the same time a silver 2012 Nissan Sentra was traveling northbound on the US95 in the middle travel lane. The Hummer and Nissan converged resulting in a head on collision. The Hummer rolled over and continued southbound until it came to rest on its roof. The driver and sole occupant of the Nissan was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the Hummer was transported to UMC Trauma with non-life threatening injuries.

 

The deceased driver of the Nissan Sentra has been identified as 58 year old Susan Teves from Las Vegas, Nevada.

 

The driver of the Hummer H2 has been identified as 32 year old Benjamin Ames from Las Vegas, Nevada. Ames was taken into custody by the Nevada Highway Patrol and booked on the following charges:

 

  • Probation Violation
  • Driving Under the Influence, Above the Legal Limit Resulting in Death
  • Reckless Driving Resulting in Death or Serious Bodily Harm
  • Duty to Stop at the Scene of Accident
  • Driving Wrong Way on a One Way Road
  • Fail to Give Information to Party at Vehicle Accident
  • Driver Fail to Report Unattended Vehicle
  • Proof of Insurance Required
  • Fail to Wear Safety Belt.

Investigators believe speed and impairment were factors in the crash.

This is the 41st fatal crash in the Nevada Highway Patrol – Southern Commands jurisdiction resulting in 47

fatalities for 2020.
