To protect the lives of all Americans, the Environmental Protection Agency has designated January as National Radon Action Month. Radon is a naturally-occurring, radioactive gas that can cause lung cancer. It's colorless and odorless, and it's the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the U-S.
In general, radon levels are slightly-elevated in the Pahrump Valley. But given the potential health dangers, experts recommend every homeowner test for the presence of radon gas. And the state is now offering free test kits.
