Department of Veterans Affairs' National Salute to Veteran Patients Feb. 9-15

Part of an effort to honor hospitalized Veterans, the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) will participate in the Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Salute to Veteran Patients Feb. 9-15.

The National Salute is observed annually during the week of Valentine's Day, a day of caring and sharing which underscores the Salute's expression of honor and appreciation to inpatient and outpatient Veterans. Nationwide, schools, community groups and youth organizations sent more than 109,000 valentines to VA medical centers, which were distributed to Veteran patients at facilities across the country. Additionally, more than 2,900 volunteers and 521 community organizations contributed to events and activities recognizing hospitalized Veterans. At the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System, Volunteers are a critical part of the success of the system’s ability to serve nearly 65,800 Veterans annually. In 2019 alone, 586 men and women provided more than 110,000 volunteer hours serving Veterans.
VASNHS Voluntary Service is hosting several events throughout the week. Community partners will be visiting the North Las Vegas VA Medical Center to distribute cards, cookies, and cupcakes made with care for our Veterans. VASNHS’ community VA clinics will be visited by local congressional staffers who will distribute heart-felt cards from with local schools and Boys & Girls Clubs to Veteran patients. The VFW Auxiliary will be passing out sweets at the Pahrump VA Clinic, and multiple visits are planned to the medical center’s inpatient units to pay special attention to hospitalized veterans.

“VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System values the contributions of our volunteers, donors and partners in helping us keep the promise to America’s Veterans,” said VASNHS Director/CEO William J. Caron. “These community resources confirm to our Veterans that we are a nation that cares and remembers their sacrifices every day.”
